what is it?

What is this?  I can't find this mystery piece on any of the drawings for the 1976 CB500T.
What is it, and where is it supposed to mount?

  1. What about the other end of that wire? Where is it connected? Is that connection on any of the drawings?

  2. I think (not sure) it's a diod. It's not part of the charging system and (in my bike) it's connected to the clutch switch. I'm not sure if US models have it as well, but EU ones come with a switch in the clutch lever so you can electric start the bike in gear holding the clutch.

  3. It is the neutral saftey switch and it mounts by the coils (clymer book)
